The Burma Burma Charity Program
How it works
Every three months, we collaborate with an NGO to co-host a fundraising event at Burma Burma. The proceeds from sales on that particular evening are dedicated to supporting the noble cause of our partner NGO.
We earnestly aspire for our initiative to serve as a benchmark for other establishments seeking to make a positive impact on society.
Burma Burma X
Khaana Chahiye Foundation
The main goal of the collaboration with Khaana Chahiye Foundation is to fight hunger in Mumbai and address the issue of food insecurity. The goal is in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #2 - Zero Hunger.
To begin with, Burma Burma will sponsor mid-day meals for 90 kids at Baljeevan Study Center in Vakola, Mumbai. The students are children of daily wage labourers and those employed in the manual work of ragpicking.
Burma Burma has been looking to create impact and give to underserved communities. Being primarily a restaurant business, the team saw a direct connection with the cause of fighting hunger in the large metropolis of Mumbai that houses its corporate office. Over the years, Burma Burma has received the loyal patronage of their customers which has firmly established the restaurant as a top brand in the hospitality industry. The team wants to share their abundant success by supporting impactful causes.
Our local execution partner conducts regular checks to ensure the system operates well. Here is a link to a few pictures of the completed project.
The partnership between Burma Burma and Khaana Chahiye Foundation (KCF) primarily addresses food insecurity as a social and economic issue in Mumbai.
● KCF’s mission is to fight hunger in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
● This aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #2: Zero Hunger.
● The partnership seeks to alleviate hunger among vulnerable populations in urban settings of Mumbai where food insecurity is prevalent
● India has a serious level of hunger, ranking 111th out of 125 countries in the 2023 Global Hunger Index.

Therefore, the partnership between Burma Burma and KCF creates a dual impact:
Providing meals to those in need, while also creating local employment opportunities. Thus empowering one marginalised community to support another.
Indirectly, the partnership also supports the education of children from underserved backgrounds. A nutritious meal is a great incentive for parents to send their children to the study centre and students potentially study better on a full stomac
Khaana Chahiye Foundation is the project's implementation partner. Khaana Chahiye Foundation is a citizens’ movement that was founded in March 2020 and has its origins in crowdfunded and volunteer-driven relief operations, through cooked meals and grocery kits, during the lockdowns.
KCF has now transitioned into a registered not-for-profit company. They run two community kitchens in Kurla and in Ulhasnagar, that are driven by a women's self-help group and a transgender persons’ collective including former victims of human trafficking respectively.
At the moment, the project is focused on Mumbai and specifically benefitting children and women from underserved communities in Santa Cruz and Kurla respectively.
The partnership kicks off in November. Burma Burma has committed to 12 months of funding for meals at Baljeevan Study Center.
The Clean Water Supply Project
The Kasin Village in Hlaingthaya Township on the outskirts of Yangon has a population of 700,000, making it one of the largest in Myanmar. Its labour population – the largest in Yangon – lives in slums which don’t have access to public water sources and distribution systems.
With the help of our local execution partner, Myanmar Kitchen, we have sponsored the construction of a Clean Water Supply System that will serve 600 people in need. The system consists of a tube well (200 to 250 feet), pumps, storage tank and distribution system. The water that reaches the 120 families that live in these slums is suitable for general use only and not for drinking; although some residents say they use it for cooking.
Once the project was set up, it was handed over to a community leader for maintenance. The leader collects a small fee from the households to buy petrol and run the pump. This has helped make it a self-sustaining operation.
